Dennis Vandiver

Dennis Gene “UD/Uncle Danny” Vandiver, 91, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.  He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 28, 1930; a son of the late Richard and Leona (Smith) Vandiver.

He attended high school in Marion County. He then served during the Korean War as Sergeant First Class from 1951-1953 in the U.S. Army and received his GED while in the military.

In 1950, he was married to Dorothy B. (Boles) Vandiver; she preceded him in death in 2007. Dennis retired from Western Electric and AT & T with thirty years of dedicated service.

Dennis attended Traders Point Christian Church in Whitestown and was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. He was talented with carpentry and enjoyed working on older homes.  Dennis also loved golfing and shooting pool. He was devoted to his family and helped raise and mentor at least a dozen of his nieces and nephews, whom he deeply loved as if they were his own.

Survivors include his daughter, Debra J. Vandiver of Lebanon; brother-in-law, Charles Boles of Lebanon; sisters-in-law, Betty Casmire of Speedway, Marie Clark of Cincinnati, Ohio; nieces, Linda (Anthony) Poli of Florida and Bobbie Shepherd of Indianapolis.

In addition to his parents and wife, Dennis was preceded in death by sisters, Doris (Bill) Harrison and Marilyn Mastbaum.

Funeral Services with military rites will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street in Lebanon, Indiana.  Visitation is planned from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home in Lebanon. Boone County Crematory has been entrusted with his cremation following services.
