Howard County Sheriff’s, Coroner’s Offices Investigate Death Of Inmate

The Howard County Coroner’s Office has released further information regarding an inmate who was found unresponsive in his cell who has since died while in the hospital.

On March 11, just after 7 p.m., a Howard County correctional officer reportedly found inmate Taylor Brod, 30, of Kokomo unresponsive in his cell while conducting a visual check of the inmates. Brod was immediately given CPR with nursing staff assisting, and paramedics arrived on the scene to transport Brod to Ascension St. Vincent for further medical treatment, authorities report.

The Howard County Coroner’s Office stated that on Wednesday, March 12, just after 8 p.m., the Howard County Coroner was dispatched to the hospital regarding a death investigation, which revealed that the decedent was Brod.

The following day, Thursday, March 13, an autopsy was performed by a forensic pathologist at the Coroner’s Office, and preliminary autopsy findings are reportedly consistent with asphyxia due to hanging. The final determination is pending forensic toxicology and lab results.

The case remains under investigation by the Howard County Sheriff’s Department and the Howard County Coroner’s Office.
