CENTRAL INDIANA — A Flood Watch is in effect across much of central Indiana from noon today through midnight Wednesday as multiple rounds of thunderstorms are expected to bring heavy rainfall and the potential for flooding.
The watch includes Clinton, Carroll, Boone, Tippecanoe, Howard, Tipton, Hamilton, Madison, Montgomery, Marion, Hendricks, Johnson, Morgan, and surrounding counties.
Forecasters say multiple rounds of storms could move through the area this afternoon and evening. Isolated rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches are possible, which could lead to excessive runoff and flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying or flood-prone areas.
Severe storms are also likely today, with the potential for a storm complex capable of producing widespread damaging winds. Localized flash flooding is another concern.
Additional thunderstorms could continue into tonight, with flooding becoming the main threat as rainfall accumulates.
More Storms Possible Through Wednesday
Thunderstorms will remain possible at times through the week. Forecasters are calling for the potential for multiple rounds of severe storms through at least Wednesday night, with damaging winds and heavy rainfall expected to be the primary threats.
Residents in flood-prone areas should monitor weather conditions closely and be prepared to move to higher ground if flooding develops. Never attempt to drive through a flooded roadway.
