James Roger Garland, 83, of Lebanon Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. He was born July 29, 1943, in Carrolton, Illinois, to the late Melvin D. and Margaret L. (Mulberry) Garland.
On April 28, 1984, he married Patricia Ann (Mullikin) Garland in Lebanon; she survives.
James moved from Union, Missouri, to Whitestown, Indiana, in 1957 and was a 1963 graduate of Whitestown High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1963 to 1967.
He later lived in St. Louis, Missouri, where he worked as a truck driver and welder, before returning to Indiana in 1969. He retired from Roadway Express in 1999.
James was a member of Mechanicsburg Christian Church. He enjoyed spending time with family as well as gardening and fishing.
Survivors include his loving wife and best friend, Pat Garland of Lebanon; five children, Robert (Roxanne) Garland of Lebanon, Bryan (Julie) Garland of Sun City Center, Florida, James (Sharon) Garland of Moscow Mills, Missouri, Brian (Renee) Dodson of Lebanon, and Debi (John) Pierson of Franklin; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his son, Jason Garland and six siblings, William Garland, Jerry Garland, Marlene Ouellette, Janice Bacon, Wealthea Pehle, and Jewel Bacon.
Funeral Services with Military Rites are planned for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Mechanicsburg Christian Church, 650 West Horton Rd, in Mechanicsburg. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow services at Hopewell Cemetery in Lebanon. Myers Mortuary has been entrusted with his arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in his memory to the Mechanicsburg Christian Church.
