Christopher James Lawe, 33, was tragically taken from this earth in an accident on September 14, 2026. A devoted husband, loving daddy, son, brother, and friend, Chris leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and a road family who meant so much to him.
Chris was born in Cannon, Texas, to Sherry Walls and James Lawe. When he was just a few months old, Chris Walls stepped into the role of dad and raised Christopher as his own. Chris grew up in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and graduated from Ponca City High School in 2012.
Baseball was part of Chris’s life almost from the moment he could walk. He especially loved playing ball with his dad, Chris. A talented pitcher, he had the opportunity to travel to Bentonville, Arkansas, for the Little League World Series. During his senior year, he was offered a scholarship to play baseball at Northern Oklahoma College. Although injuries prevented him from pursuing his baseball career, his love for the game remained.
Chris had always dabbled in golf, but recently had grown to love it and would have played every day if he could. An avid sports fan, Chris proudly cheered for the New York Yankees, Philadelphia Eagles, and Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Chris held several jobs over the years before finding work he truly enjoyed as a heavy equipment operator. To him, it was a chance to operate “big boy Tonka trucks” and get paid to play in the dirt. Working on the road brought more than a paycheck—it brought a family. The brothers and sisters he gained along the way held a special place in his life.
Among that cherished extended family were Ty and Kayla Copelin and their four boys, Kyson, Kolter, Kash, and Kelby. Chris was working as a dealer at the casino when Ty sat down at his table, and that was where their bond began. They went on to haul cattle together, which led to traveling on the road operating heavy machinery. They were two peas in a pod, sharing a bond that made them family.
About ten years ago, Chris met Bethany, and they married on January 27, 2018. They welcomed their first daughter, Aspen, on October 2, 2018, and their second daughter, Aubrey, on January 12, 2022. Chris’s world revolved around his two beautiful girls. Of all the titles he held, “Daddy” was the one he treasured most.
Chris is survived by his wife, Bethany Lawe; his daughters, Aspen and Aubrey; his mother, Sherry Walls; his father, Anthony Lawe; his brother, Justin Sawyer; his sister, Diamond Walls; and his aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also leaves behind other extended family, friends, and his cherished road family.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Christopher James Walls; his brother, Kyle James Samuel Walls; and several cousins and grandparents.
Chris’s life ended far too soon, but the love he shared remains with those who knew him. He will be remembered on the ballfield, on the golf course, whenever his favorite teams take the field, among his road family, and most of all in the hearts of Bethany, Aspen, and Aubrey.
A come-and-go Celebration of Life will be held on October 10, 2026, at the Ponca City Lake Pavilion. Family and friends are invited to stop by anytime between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM to share memories and celebrate Chris’s life. Myers Mortuary and Boone County Crematory have been entrusted with cremation.
