On September 19, 2026, just before 3:30 a.m., first responders responded to a single vehicle fatal crash at Gas City Park in Gas City.
A preliminary investigation by the Indiana State Police determined that a 2021 Hyundai Elantra was traveling southbound on a roadway near Duck Walk Run when, for a reason that remains under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. At this time, speed is considered to be a contributing factor in the crash. This determination remains preliminary and will be further evaluated as the crash reconstruction investigation continues.
Despite lifesaving efforts, the juvenile driver of the Hyundai Elantra was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Grant County Coroner’s Office. The driver’s identity will be released by the Grant County Coroner’s Office.
Four additional occupants were inside the vehicle, three of whom were juveniles. Two occupants were airlifted from the scene to area hospitals, while two additional occupants were transported by ambulance to local hospitals.
The crash remains under investigation by the Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team. There is no further information to release at this time.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Gas City Police Department, Grant County Coroner’s Office, Gas City Fire Department, Grant County EMS, and Marion General EMS.
