Indiana State Police Detectives and Crash Reconstructionsists continue thier investigaiton into an earlier crash involving a school bus and an ISP pick-up truck. After reviewing camera footage, investigators now have a better understanding of what occurred and are actively looking for a third vehicle that was involved. That vehicle is an older Blue Honda mini van (photo below)
The bus, the mini van and the ISP pick-up truck were all entering I-465 northbound from Washington Street. The bus was in front followed by the van and then the ISP pick-up. As the bus and the van merged onto I-465, both the bus and the van moved into the center lane at the same time. The van then moved to the left lane and was passing the bus. As the van cleared the front of the bus, the bus driver made an evasive maneuver to the right and struck the right rear of the ISP vehicle, which was in the lane to the right of the bus. That collision caused the pick-up to slide sideways and impact the concrete median barrier head on. The bus then slid sideways and tipped onto the driver’s side resting partially on the median wall. Investigators do not believe the van made contact with the bus, however detectives would like to speak with the van driver about what happened.
ISP Detectives are using all available technology and resources to identify and locate the driver of the van. Anyone with information about this van or knows its whereabouts is asked to call the Indiana State Police at 317-899-8577.
