Jeannie L. Thompson

Jeannie Lorene Thompson, 57, of Crawfordsville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, surrounded by her sons Brandon and Craig and her husband Jimmy by her side. Born on February 17, 1969, in Lebanon, Indiana, Jeannie lived a life filled with love, laughter, music, service, and an unwavering love for Jesus Christ. Though her family grieves her passing, they rejoice in the promise of eternal life and the hope of being reunited with her one day in Heaven.

Jeannie was the daughter of the late Carlos and Myrtle (Frederick) Thompson. The youngest of eight children, she grew up surrounded by family and developed a lifelong love for singing, music, and spending time with those she loved. Some of her most treasured memories were made singing alongside her brothers and sisters, sharing music at family gatherings, and harmonizing together at the annual Thompson Christmas get-together. Family was always important to Jeannie, and she especially enjoyed taking trips with her siblings and spending time with her many nieces and nephews.

On November 23, 1985, Jeannie married Henry Carrell. Although their marriage later ended in divorce, they raised their two beloved sons, Brandon and Craig, together in Montgomery County, Indiana. Being a mother was one of Jeannie’s greatest joys. She loved her boys with all her heart, and that love only grew as her family expanded.

Jeannie was affectionately known as “Grandma Jeannie,” a title she wore with tremendous love and pride. Her six grandchildren—Tyler Ray, Aaleeah Lorene, Dallas Wayne, Vera Marylou, Jep Warren, and Owen Steven—were her world. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with them, play games, laugh together, and make memories they would carry with them for a lifetime. And if there was one thing Grandma Jeannie knew how to do, it was spoiling her grandbabies! Christmas was especially magical with Grandma Jeannie, who delighted in filling the season with gifts and making sure each grandchild knew just how loved they were. Her grandchildren were a source of immeasurable joy, and she leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through each of them.

Jeannie later married Jimmy Bower, who survives. Together, they enjoyed traveling, taking motorcycle rides and cruises, and making memories through their adventures. Whether exploring somewhere new or simply enjoying time together at home, Jeannie appreciated the moments that made life special.

Jeannie attended Western Boone High School and graduated from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. Throughout her life, she carried a passion for serving others and making a difference in their lives. She spent many years working in childcare and nonprofit organizations, where her heart for helping people found a natural home. Her time working with Love INC of Boone County was especially meaningful to her. Jeannie genuinely cared about people and wanted to help wherever she could. She was the kind of person who wanted to listen, lend a hand, offer encouragement, and pray with those who were hurting. Her selfless heart and compassionate spirit touched many lives.

Above all else, Jeannie loved Jesus with all her heart. Her faith was not simply something she believed; it was something she loved to share. Music was one of the ways she expressed that love. She delighted in singing and playing music at her home church, Covenant Grace Fellowship in North Salem, Indiana. Whether singing with her church family or harmonizing with her siblings, music brought her joy and gave her another way to praise the Lord she loved so dearly. Her faith was a central part of who she was, and the hope she found in Jesus is now the hope her family holds close.

Those who knew Jeannie will remember her love for the color purple, her fondness for butterflies, and her joy in gardening and tending to her flowers. She loved the simple pleasures of life, especially sitting on the porch around a warm fire, enjoying the evening and the company of those she loved. There was beauty in the little things for Jeannie, whether it was a flower blooming in the garden, a butterfly passing by, a favorite song being sung, or another opportunity to spend time with her family. These simple joys reflected the warmth of her heart and the beauty she saw in the world around her.

Jeannie is survived by her husband, Jimmy Bower; her former husband, Henry Carrell; her two sons, Brandon (Carri) Carrell and Craig (Lagora) Carrell; her six cherished grandchildren, Tyler Ray, Aaleeah Lorene, Dallas Wayne, Vera Marylou, Jep Warren, and Owen Steven; her sisters, Glenda (Hubert) Smith and Sandy (Gary) Trent; and her brothers, Carl (Andrea) Thompson, Troy (Tina) Thompson, and Alan (Corina) Thompson. She is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlos and Myrtle Thompson; her oldest sister, Brenda (Richard) Butler; and her oldest brother, Ivan (Doris) Thompson.

Jeannie’s life reminds us that love is found in the ways we care for others, the memories we create together, the songs we sing, the prayers we offer, and the faith we share. Though her family will deeply miss her laughter, her singing, her generous heart, and the joy she brought into their lives, they can take comfort in knowing that her story does not end here.

The same Jesus Jeannie loved so dearly has promised eternal life to those who believe in Him. Today, her family holds tightly to that promise and finds comfort in the assurance that, through Christ, death is not the end. One day, the family that loved to gather, sing, and celebrate together will have the opportunity to do so again in the presence of their Savior.

Until that day, Jeannie will live on in the hearts of her sons, the lives of her grandchildren, the songs of her family, the beauty of a purple flower, the flutter of a butterfly, and the countless memories of a woman who loved deeply and gave freely.

Her earthly song has ended, but her eternal song has just begun.
