Gerald Leon “Jerry” Harris, 81, of Zionsville, Indiana, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023, at Zionsville Meadows. He was born in Indianapolis, on April 18, 1941, a son of the late Victor and Louise (Kehrer) Harris.
On October 7, 1961, he was married to Sharon M. (Wright) Harris at the Salem Lutheran Church in New Augusta. She survives.
Raised in Indianapolis, Jerry was a graduate of Lawrence Central High School. He worked twenty-nine years for Chrysler Corporation as the Security–Fire Marshall; however, the month of May, Jerry could be found at the Indiana Motor Speedway as a Pit Fireman. He retired from both companies. During retirement, Jerry served as the Boone County Coroner from 2009 – 2012. He was dedicated to his community, volunteering as an EMT for Zionsville Emergency Ambulance and Zionsville Fire Department. He also devoted his time to the Zionsville Police Department Reserve and the Boone County Sheriff Department. Between these services, he logged nearly 100 years of community service.
Jerry enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He and Sharon loved spending time at their lake house in Parke County. Above all, the most important thing to Jerry was his family, as he was a devoted husband and father.
