The Frankfort Redevelopment Commission gave its approval for another downtown project Thursday night by allowing the Frankfort Utilities to clean up the parking lot behind the Regions Bank building and to clean up the electrical polls and wires between Arni’s and Ellis Jewelers.
Last month, Utility Service Board Chairman Todd Corrie went before the RDC for their permission to do the project. They asked him about how much money would be needed for the project and Corrie replied $125,000.
They sat on the decision for one month before finally deciding to do the project.
“We approved going into a partnership with some of the merchants and the city utilities in trying to remove all the wires in the alley between Arni’s and Ellis Jewelers and on down the way as the County works on their parking lot back there,” said RDC Chairman Joe Palmer.
Work will be between Main and Jackson Streets when the County is done with the parking lot and it should take about two months to complete.
There was one other caveat thrown into the mix.
“The county is allowing the city and county to partner up on concerts in Prairie Creek Park,” said Palmer. “Once their construction is done, we’ll be allowed to use their parking lot after 5 o’clock in the evening as a parking lot for concerts and things like that so people will have room to park.”
