Okie Mae Holt

Okie Mae Holt, 92, passed away at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, on January 3, 2024. She was born on June 5, 1931, in Fleming County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Jordan L. Curtis and Bertha Jane (Bradshaw) Cassidy. She was married on May 7, 1955, in Lebanon to Eullis O. Holt, he preceded her in death on March 3, 2019.

Okie attended Lebanon High School. She was employed at Walts Supermarket in Lebanon, Commercial Filter in Lebanon, and Mallory Controls in Frankfort.

Okie attended Lebanon First Church of the Nazarene and had a devout faith in God and didn’t hesitate to discuss her faith with everyone. She was also a member of the Gideon Society so she could help provide Bibles to those without them. She was a devoted homemaker, wife, and mother. Okie enjoyed listening to Blue Grass music and dancing. Clogging was her claim to fame and every year you could find her at local music events including the Boone County 4-H Fair and Indiana State Fair. She was a great cook and specialized in making homemade apple butter, noodles, pies, and biscuits and gravy. Her children, grandchildren and great grands were her life. Nothing made her happier than talking with them about her life, playing Euchre and making sure every family had an Aggravation board game so they could play anytime they chose. Grandma Okie loved attending Lebanon Tiger Basketball games or listening to them on the radio especially when her grandchildren were playing.

Okie is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Ralph Burrough) Ottinger; son, Michael Holt; six grandchildren, Ryan (fiancée Melissa) Ottinger, Ashley (Jeff) Nelson, Corbin (Erica) Burroughs, David Burroughs, Lindsey Jones, Austin (Shelly) Holt, and six great-grandchildren, Kobe, Kylie, Bryce, Mya, Ryker, Mackenzie, and Cooper and was looking forward to becoming a Great Grandma to Cade, Reid and Sloan. She was a wonderful Aunt and Great Aunt to over 50 nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Okie was preceded in death by, four brothers: Bill Curtis, Jack Curtis, Gene Curtis, Clyde Curtis; and two sisters: Mary Plunkett, and Edna Jent.

Funeral Services are planned for Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow services at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
