Authorities in West Lafayette have confirmed that threats called into West Lafayette Junior and Senior High School this morning that
resulted in evacuation were unsubstantiated.
According to the West Lafayette Police Department, on Tuesday, March 26, the school received an initial threat that was called directly into the school around 7:45 a.m. of a bomb threat. As the department was responding to the initial threat, a second call was received by the dispatch center from a caller who claimed to be within the school with a firearm, police say.
Authorities reported that a school resource officer immediately evacuated the school with the aid of school staff, and officers from the West Lafayette Police Department, Purdue University Police Department and Lafayette Police Department quickly responded to the report and conducted a room-by-room search for potential threats.
Evacuated students were relocated to the Purdue University campus for their safety. During the evacuation, two other schools in the area initiated emergency procedures as a precaution, police say.
Officers reportedly cleared the school school with a report that no credible evidence related to the threats was found, but an active investigation is still underway.
