The weekend holds nuerous activities for the community of Frankfort to enjoy prior to the upcoming solar eclipse on April 8.
Kicking off today, Friday, the City of Frankfort will be hosting a screening of Disney’s “Wish” at the Neighborhood Center at 259 S. 3rd St. in Frankfort at 7 p.m.
Kicking off Saturday will be the Frankfort Farmers and Artisan Market at Veterans Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. As a special eclipse-themed market, organizer MaryLynn Peter has announced that a bingo game will be available for shoppers to win additional prizes from the Old Coots table. The bingo boards will task visitors with exploring the vendors at the market to fill out their bingo cards before approaching the old Coots table to answer a few eclipse-related trivia questions with the possibility to win a prize. Peter announced that all bingos will receive a prize, but special prizes may be available for those who complete their bingo board.
Peter stated previously that this upcoming farmers and artisan market is expected to be the largest market since the market was brought back to Frankfort. The event will also feature live music from multiple bands throughout the event.
The Moon Walk Shop Hop will also be rolling in full force in the downtown area from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. organized by Frankfort Main Street. Community members are encouraged to visit the Frankfort Main Street information booth for more information during the event and to receive the Moon Walk Passport to earn prizes.
The Frankfort Main Street Cruise In will follow the Moon Walk Shop Hop in the downtown area with vehicles and hot rods of all kinds taking to the streets for a car show. The car show will feature music by T-N-T Tunes and will feature local food and vendors from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The solar eclipse concert will kick off at 5 p.m. with Tune-O-Matics before Stella Luna and the Satellites take the stage at 6:30 p.m., ending with a performance from the Time Travelers at 8:30 p.m.
The eclipse concerts will be accompanied by the Taste of the Eclipse event where local restaurants, food trucks and more will provide a taste of Frankfort for the community, such as Shoup’s Country Foods, Catering by C&R, Brandon’s Burgers, American Porkers and Los Compadres.
Sunday will conclude the weekend of events in Frankfort with a continuation of the Moon Walk Shop Hop during store hours and a Community Worship Service in the morning at Prairie Creek Park beginning at 10:30 a.m with special guests lee Anna and The Resolvers.
The weekend will officially conclude with a screening of October Sky at Prairie Creek Park beginning at dusk on Sunday.
