Stacey Lynn (Carter) Sutphin, 61, of Jamestown, Indiana was called Home by God on October 7, 2024. She was born on March 19,1963 to Sonny and Wanda Lee (Mason) Carter. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Greg Sutphin, on March 28th, 1981, their marriage lasting 43 years before she was called Home.
Stacey was a selfless mother and fiercely loved her children, Travis (Krisha) Sutphin, Dana (Kurt) Hubbell, and Andrea (Jay) Purdy. Her entire life’s purpose was to make her children and grandchildren’s lives as idyllic as possible- she succeeded. Her love only deepened with the addition of each of her grandchildren: Joseph Sutphin, Everlee Hubbell, Carter Hubbell, Bowen Hubbell, Ellie Purdy, Hayden Purdy, Mady Hinkle, and Kayla Hinkle. Not one thought, action, decision was made without her family in mind.
Stacey was an accomplished businesswoman and philanthropist. Her dedication and commitment to her career endeavors was unmatched. She was devoted to her employees much like she was to her family. Her time spent in Psychiatric and Veterinarian Medicine undoubtedly impacted more people than she could have ever imagined. She was respected and maybe a bit feared, but she was a leader you wanted to excel for. Her family “forced” her to retire, but we all know she was itching to get back to work, to make a difference, to impact the world.
If Stacey set a goal, she achieved it and then some. She was passionate about her charity work. In addition to her own contribution, she successfully raised funds for Advance Town Park Playground and Walking Trail. She made so many friends in the process. She founded “Stacey’s Closet” which provided clothing for young girls in residential treatment programs. She loved to give barn tours at charity polo matches and her daughters will see to it that “Tiggy Ascott” lives on.
Stacey’s next great love in life was being with her horses. She treasured this time with them- from riding with her sister, Connie, on her first horse, Frank, to her most recent horses, Bacon and Ace. She was happiest watching her children and grandchildren ride and compete, even if she was the one footing the bill. This brought her the most profound joy, whether she was knee deep in the mud at a high school rodeo affectionately named “The Ice Bowl,” or at her favorite heated arena in Springfield, Ohio. This love of horses took her family all over the country and gained her friends who became family- they were by her side to the end. These dear friends would describe her as loyal to her core. She could count on them, and they could endlessly count on her in any situation. We are counting on them now to help us keep her memory alive.
Stacey was steadfast, unwavering, a woman of her word, and true to her values. She inspired so many people with her ability to “stay the course” in difficult times. If you were in a sinking ship, you’d want Stacey on board.
In addition to her husband, children and grandchildren, Stacey is survived by her mother, Wanda, her mother-in-law, Dorothy Sutphin, her sister Connie (Rick) Ford and a brother, Eric Carter. She truly loved and enjoyed her time with her many nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Clifton “Sonny” Carter and father-in-law, Everett “Marvin” Sutphin.
Funeral Services are planned for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will follow services at I.O.O.F Cemetery in Jamestown. An additional celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
