Fire Sweeps Across Standing Corn Field In Burlington Tuesday Afternoon

Reports have been received that a large field fire with standing corn at 700 East and 200 South in Burlington is ongoing as of 1:45 p.m. today, Oct. 22.

The fire is reportedly quickly spreading as passersby and first responders report large clouds of smoke rising above the standing corn.

No information has been released regarding the cause of the fire or whether any civilians have been injured as a result of the flames. Reports show that a combine fire may have begun the fire.

Burlington, Cutler, Flora and Young America Fire Departments have been dispatched to the area with other units being requested to work the ground of the fire to stop its spread throughout the field. Aid has also been requested from New Waverly.

Reports show that the fire is quickly moving toward structures in the surrounding area of the field.

No further information has been released as of 2:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
