FRANKFORT, Ind. — Authorities are investigating the death of a person found in a crashed vehicle Saturday night after evidence at the scene indicated the vehicle had been struck by gunfire.
According to a joint release from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and the Frankfort Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 9:17 p.m. Saturday, July 18, to the 800 block of South County Road 200 West for a report of a one-vehicle crash involving a possible fatality.
When officers arrived, they found the vehicle in a field on the west side of the roadway. Clinton County EMS and the Frankfort Fire Department also responded and determined the vehicle’s lone occupant was deceased.
Investigators said evidence at the scene indicates shots were fired at the crashed vehicle. Detectives from both the Frankfort Police Department and the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, along with crime scene investigators from both agencies, responded to process the scene.
The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office is leading the joint investigation, with assistance from the Frankfort Police Department.
The Clinton County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity, as well as the official cause and manner of death, once appropriate notifications have been made and the investigation allows.
