Indianapolis Man Dies After Rescue at Eagle Creek Reservoir

An Indianapolis man has died following a water rescue incident at Eagle Creek Reservoir earlier this week, according to authorities.

Frederick Holmes, 41, of Indianapolis, was identified as the victim. Officials confirmed he died from injuries sustained during the incident that occurred on April 24, 2026.

The investigation is being conducted by the Indiana Conservation Officers.

According to officials, the incident began around 12:00 p.m. near Dandy Trail when a boater tied his vessel to a dock and briefly returned to his truck. During that time, the boat began drifting away. A bystander then entered the water in an attempt to retrieve it but began struggling and went underwater.

First responders, including the Indianapolis Fire Department Dive Team, arrived shortly after emergency calls were made. Divers located and recovered the man approximately 30 minutes later.

He was transported in critical condition to IU Health Methodist Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
