Phillip Max Stoops, 88, of Frankfort, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026, at Wesley Manor.
Born on November 7, 1937, in Michigantown, Phil was the son of Bernard Kenneth and Charlotte (Bailey) Stoops.
A proud 1956 graduate of Frankfort High School, he went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Air Force. On August 16, 1959, he married the love of his life, Millicent R. Coffman, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned 67 years.
Phil was the owner and operator of Phil Stoops Siding and Window Company, where he built a reputation for craftsmanship, integrity, and genuine pride in his work. After retiring, he continued to enjoy serving his community through his work at Rural King in Frankfort. He was deeply involved in local organizations throughout his life, including St. Matthew Church, the Loyal Order of Moose, and the Frankfort Jaycees, where he served as Indiana State Chairman for Jr. Miss in 1973. In 1953, he was honored as the first recipient of the Boy Scouts’ God and Country Award—an early reflection of his character and commitment to service.
Phil found joy in making homes more beautiful and took great satisfaction in a job well done. Above all, his greatest happiness came from time spent with his family, especially during their cherished annual trips to Panama City Beach, Florida.
Phil is survived by his beloved wife, Millicent; their children, Catherine (Todd) Copper of Nashville, IN, Phillip Mark Stoops of Ft. Myers Beach, FL, and Lori (Mark) Roth of Frankfort; grandchildren, Anthony (Sarah) Roth of West Lafayette, Cory Roth (Christine Taylor) of Florida, Alexa (Andrew) Vaughn of Florida, Mattie (Josh) Lee of Frankfort, Bailee Robison (William Tripp) of Ohio, and Chloee Robison (Liberia); great-grandchildren, Finnegan, Sadie, Cohen, Charlotte, Collins, Damien, and Grayton; brothers, William (Pat) Stoops of Illinois and Jim (Helen) Stoops of Mulberry; along with many extended family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Deloris Stoops.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date at Wesley Manor, 1555 N. Main St., Frankfort. Burial will take place in Green Lawn Cemetery with military honors at a later date.
