Ronald Hiland, 85, passed away Friday, May 15, 2026, at home. He was born on November 19, 1940, in the home of his parents, Ivan and Lettie (Smith) Hiland.
Ron graduated from Pinnell High School in 1959 and soon after married Martha Crouch, on November 21, 1959. Ron and Martha shared 64 years of marriage until the time of her passing in 2024.
Together, Ron and Martha raised two sons, Ronnie and Danny Hiland. Ron spent most of his life working as a maintenance man, a role that reflected his natural ability to fix, build, and care for all things around him. He had a true gift for tinkering and repairing, always finding satisfaction in a job well done.
Ron found his greatest joy at home and on the farm. He loved spending time with his family, working the land, running his tractors, and caring for his animals. His daily routine often included taking his loyal dog along as he checked on his cows-simple moments that meant everything to him. He also enjoyed attending auctions and never passed up the chance to find something worth restoring.
Ron is survived by his two sons, Ronnie (Susan) Hiland and Danny (Chris) Hiland; his grandchildren, Andy (Hillary), Aaron (Chelsea), and Brandon (Jessica); and his great-grandchildren, Cooper, Granger, Brody, Hadley, Jade, Bryer, and Baker Hiland. He is also survived by his sister, Christine Vaught; his sister-in-law, Kim Crouch-Duff; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Hiland, and his grandson, Brayton Hiland.
Family and friends are asked to gather for graveside services at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2026, at Old Union Cemetery, rural Jamestown, Indiana. Myers Mortuary in Lebanon has been entrusted with his arrangements.
Memorial contributions in Ron’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research, Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
