Gary William Day, 68, of Thorntown, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Franciscan Health Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana.\u00a0 Born on April 24, 1956 in Lebanon, Indiana, he was the beloved son of the late William Harold Day and Elizabeth (Woods) Day.<\/p>\n

Gary was a proud graduate of Granville Wells High School, class of 1974. Shortly after graduation, he answered the call to serve his country and honorably served in the United States Navy as a submariner aboard the USS Alexander Hamilton SSBN 617.<\/p>\n

A man of many talents and tireless dedication, Gary worked as a production manager and electronic technician for Naval Avionics. He was also a teamster, spending many years as a devoted truck driver. In addition, he owned a successful mowing business, where he specialized in caring for and maintaining cemeteries with his two boys, Gary II and Kenneth.<\/p>\n

Gary\u2019s faith was the cornerstone of his life. He had a strong relationship with Jesus Christ, which brought him guidance, strength, and peace. His faith shone brightly in the way he lived, treating others with kindness, compassion, and integrity.<\/p>\n

Gary\u2019s roots ran deep in the farming community, where he enjoyed raising cows and pigs. He also cherished his time outdoors, finding joy in riding motorcycles, watching all forms of motorsports, fishing, camping, and barbecuing.<\/p>\n

His loyal life partner and companion, his beloved Linda and dog Oliver, was always by his side, sharing in his many adventures and bringing him great happiness.<\/p>\n

Gary was deeply involved in his community and was a member of numerous organizations, including the American Legion Post 72, NRA, Loyal Order of Moose in Crawfordsville, Fraternal Order of Eagles #1005, VFW in Crawfordsville, and the Plainfield Masonic Lodge. He was also a lifelong member of the DAV.<\/p>\n

Known for his integrity, unwavering work ethic, and generosity, Gary lived a life of purpose and love. He was a man of strong character who inspired everyone fortunate enough to know him.<\/p>\n

Above all, his greatest joy and source of pride was his family. As a devoted father, Gary\u2019s steadfast guidance, unconditional love, and countless sacrifices shaped the lives of his children, Gary II and Kenneth. To them, he was not just a dad \u2013 he was our hero.<\/p>\n

Gary is survived by his life partner, Linda Lou Cox and her daughter, Julia; his children, Gary W. (Katie) Day II of Shirley, Indiana and Kenneth H. Day (life partner, Sierra Loy) of Crawfordsville; his brothers, Mike D. (Lou Ann) Day of North Carolina, Jamie D. (Shannon) Day of Avon, and Harold A. Day of Clayton; and his brother-in-law, James Breese of Lebanon.<\/p>\n

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in passing by his sister, Nora Ann Breese and brother, Walter M. Day.<\/p>\n

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Crawfordsville American Legion, 101 Walter Remley Dr., in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Inurnment will take place at I.O.O.F Cemetery in Jamestown, Indiana at a later date. Porter and Hunt Funeral Home & Crematory have been entrusted with his cremation arrangements.<\/p>\n

Gary\u2019s life was a testament to love, dedication, and faith. His legacy will live on in the hearts and those who knew and love him, and his memory will continue to inspire those who carry on his values.<\/p>\n
