Congratulations to our Daisy Honoree recipient, Carol Sewell! An RN on the Extended Care Unit, Carol exemplifies Witham\u2019s commitment to excellence and personalized care.<\/p>\n

The Daisy Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary compassionate and skillful care given by nurses every day. Witham is proud to be a Daisy Award Partner, recognizing one of our nurses with this special honor twice a year.<\/p>\n

The Daisy Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died of complications\u00a0of the auto-immune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura at the age of 33. During Pat’s 8 week hospitalization, his family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided not only to Pat but to everyone in his family. So one of the goals they set in creating a Foundation in Pat’s memory was to recognize extraordinary nurses everywhere who make an enormous difference in the lives of so many people by the super-human work they do every day.<\/p>\n

Below is an excerpt from Carol\u2019s nomination submitted via her co-worker:<\/p>\n

“Carol had a patient that she was worried about and stated she had a feeling something was wrong. She listened to that intuition and rounded on the patient frequently. She was in the room and he ended up coding. Carol was right there, immediately called for help, and started CPR. Her coworkers responded immediately and the code team. She saved this patient’s life by \u201clistening to her gut\u201d as she said earlier. I saw this patient in CCU a few days later, extubated, and doing much better. He and his family were tearful and so appreciative.”<\/p>\n
