Yvonne McCall

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother. Yvonne Annette (Strong) McCall, 78, of Thorntown passed peacefully on Sunday, February 12, 2023, at Signature Healthcare at Parkwood in Lebanon, Indiana.

Yvonne was born December 23, 1944, in Lebanon, Indiana, the oldest of the four children of the late Donald and Beverly (Souder) Strong. She was raised in Thorntown and attended Thorntown High School, graduating with the class of 1963.

Yvonne married Tommy “Tom” McCall on June 8, 1963, in the living room of the home they would raise their family in Thorntown, Indiana. Tom preceded her in death on June 1, 2019, after sixty years together, fifty-six of those in which they were married.

Yvonne was a homemaker and dedicated her life to her family and community. She also worked a handful of years as a hearing aid dealer for Lee Med, working in both Crawfordsville and Frankfort. She attended GAP Church in Thorntown until her health would not allow her to go.

She enjoyed meeting up with friends including her high school class twice a year, crocheting, sewing, quilting, watching the Golden Girls and she never missed an episode of Dr. Phil. In her later years, her pride and joy was babysitting and entertaining her two great granddaughters.

No one was a stranger to Yvonne. Her family liked to joke that she could make a friend with a telephone pole if given the chance. Because of this, friends of her children and grandchildren became pseudo children and grandchildren to her. Many, many people affectionately referred to her as Grandma.

Yvonne is survived by her daughter, Carol (Anthony) Keith of Thorntown with whom she had been staying with in recent months; six grandchildren, Cassie Keith and companion Tyler Couchman, Catie Keith and companion Matt Summers, and Maverick Keith of Thorntown; Jessica Arterburn and companion Tristen Kellogg, Tori Arterburn-McCall of Lebanon; and Kasie Arterburn and companion TJ Baxley of Bean Station, Tennessee; and three great-grandchildren, Austin Black, Aline Williams, and Rogue Summers of Thorntown. She is also survived by her brother, Donald (Karen) Strong of Thorntown; sister, Rebecca Harder of Thorntown; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Yvonne is preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Arterburn; sister, Karen Rose Feldhaus; and her best friend since first grade, Donna Kay Long.
It was her wish for there to be no funeral services and her family is respecting those wishes. A private interment of ashes will take place at a later date when she will be laid to rest next to her husband and oldest daughter.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you spend time with your loved ones, hug them, and tell them you love them because you never know what tomorrow brings.

Myers & Hunt Mortuary of Thorntown and Boone County Crematory have been entrusted with her arrangements for cremation.
