19 Year Old Arrested for Alleged Shooting on I-70

A 19 year old was arrested yesterday for allegedly shooting a man driving on I-70 near Shadeland Avenue. Saturday June 28, 2025 at 5:30 p.m., Indiana State Police Dispatchers received a 911 call about an interstate shooting on I-70. Troopers quickly responded to the area and found an adult male inside a Toyota Camry on the right shoulder with an injury consistent to a gunshot wound, multiple bullet holes were also found in the side of the Toyota.

Indiana State Police Detectives responded to the scene to investigate. Detectives were able to generate multiple leads on a possible suspect vehicle subsequently leading them to a suspect. With the assistance of IMPD’s Violence Reduction Team Northwest District, 19 year old Jonathan Avila-Molina of Indianapolis was taken into custody on July 1, 2025. During the course of this investigation multiple firearms were seized and a juvenile was also arrested for possession of a firearm.

Avila-Molina was incarcerated in the Marion County Jail and faces the preliminary charges of Attempted Murder and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

The victim was treated at a local hospital and released.

All crimes mentioned in this release are alleged and all suspects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court. The charges listed are preliminary, actual charges will be determined by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
