The Boone County Sheriff’s Office announced that K-9 Justice and K-9 Kylo were driving forces in apprehending a suspect that had fled from the law enforcement presence earlier this week.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department contacted Sgt. Travis Sutphin and K-9 Justice around 10:30 p.m. on March 3 to assist with tracking a male suspect that had reportedly fled the scene of a domestic incident. Sgt. Jonathan Barnes and K-9 Kylo were also contacted to assist with the investigation.
As the K-9s and handlers arrived on the scene, they were reportedly advised that the male left through the back door of the residence and was evading detection. Upon hearing the background of the situation, Sgt. Sutphin and K-9 Justice utilized a blanket as a scent article, and K-9 Justice began tracking the man south from the residence.
With K-9 Justice in pursuit, Sgt. Barnes and K-9 Kylo, Whitestown Sgt. Christopher Gipson and Whitestown officer Zack Thomas followed swiftly behind, authorities state. K-9 Justice eventually led the group to a creek, and the officers asked the man to make himself known.
According to reports, the suspect responded to the ask from law enforcement by emerging from a bank along the creek that was approximately 10 to 15 feet above where the officers stood with his hands raised. The man was reportedly taken into custody and transported to the Boone County Jail by the Whitestown police with no further incidents.
“The Boone County Sherifff’s Office would like to show our appreciation for the hard work that our K-9s and their handlers put into the job every day,” the department released. “Our K-9s do an excellent job of assisting on many different incident scenes.”
