Steve Kaspar        1953-2024

Steven Charles Kaspar, 71, passed away suddenly Wednesday, September 4, 2024. Steve was born on New Year’s Day in 1953 in Ames, IA, to Vernon and Lillian (Lundgren) Kaspar. He lived his early childhood years in Fremont, NE and Frankfort IN. He was a 1971 graduate of Clinton Prairie High School near Frankfort, IN. 

Steve married the love of his life, Patricia Haygood, in 1979 in Lafayette, IN. Steve and Pat with their three sons moved to the west St. Louis area in 1986 and became active members of the WestPlex community.

Steve’s music career started early forming “Orange Post Road” band with his brother and several I.U. and Purdue students. Steve was a member and song writer for the popular “Bodacious Band” for several years. Recently Steve started his creative “Kaspar Project” using art and music to push back on bullying in our society.

Steve was Owner and CEO of KFAV-FM, KWRE-AM and Kaspar Broadcasting of Missouri. He was passionate about music and was an accomplished musician and songwriter. Steve was known and will be remembered for his bold and exuberant love and passion for life and the way he embraced his family, friends, music, team members, broadcasting, politics, ideas, and community. He loved his dogs Honey Badger, Pupano and Moolah.

Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Patricia (Haygood) Kaspar of Warrenton, Missouri; three sons, Ryan (Lafayette) Kaspar of Madison, MS, Alexander Kaspar of Lafayette, IN, and Trevor Kaspar of Warrenton, MO; two brothers, Victor (Karen) Kaspar of Dunn, NC, Russell (Susan) Kaspar of Frankfort, IN; brother-in-law, Tom Haygood of Lafayette, IN; two granddaughters, Lillian and Olivia and several cousins, nieces and nephews. 

Steve is preceded in death by his father, Vernon John Kaspar; and mother, Lillian Elizabeth (Lundgren) Kaspar; infant sister, Susan Kaspar; In-Laws Oren and Inge Haygood; and Brother in-Law Gerald L Haygood.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
