The Indiana Department of Transportation announces the start of chip seal operations in Howard, Grant, and Madison Counties.
Operations are scheduled as follows, with daily road closures planned between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Work will continue for two to three days per location, weather permitting. Access will be maintained for local traffic only. On/after Monday, August 18: S.R. 26 from S.R. 931 to S.R. 9 in Howard and Grant counties
On/after Thursday, August 21: S.R. 19 from U.S. 35 to S.R. 26 in Howard County
On/after Monday, August 25: S.R. 128 from C.R. 500 W. in Frankton to S.R. 9 in Madison County
On/after Wednesday, August 27: S.R. 128 from C.R. 600 W. in Frankton to S.R. 37 in Madison County
On/after Monday, September 1: S.R. 13 from S.R. 37 to S.R. 32 on the Madison/Hamilton County line
During chip seal operations, existing pavement is coated with liquid asphalt, which seals cracks and provides waterproof protection. This extends the service life of the roadway and lowers maintenance costs. Once the roadway is coated with liquid asphalt, loose aggregate is applied, and excess material is swept from the roadway. After a curing period, crews will return to fog seal the new driving surface and apply pavement markings.
INDOT encourages drivers to slow down, use extra caution and travel distraction-free in and near work zones. All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.
