In 1964, John married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Arlene Cord, in a simple ceremony at the Stipe family farm in New Ross, Indiana. After graduating from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University, he and Nancy moved to the west side of Indianapolis, where John began a 42-year career in the transportation industry with Detroit Diesel Allison. John and Nancy raised their three sons in the Chapel Hill neighborhood of Indianapolis. A devoted husband, father, and friend, John was always willing to lend a hand to family, friends, and neighbors in times of need.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Nancy; three sons, John J. Stipe (Maria), David L. Stipe (Kelley), and Robert C. Stipe (Beth); sister, Judith Carroll of Cortez, Colorado; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Pisgah Cemetery, 10591 East 100 South, in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
