Melinda Jo “Mindy” Gilbert, age 51, of Sheridan, Indiana, passed away on Sunday afternoon, October 19, 2025, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville, Indiana. Born April 24, 1974, in Noblesville, Indiana, she was the daughter of Kenneth Caywood and Deborah Darlene (Stout) Gilbert. She attended Stony Creek Elementary School in Noblesville before enrolling at Tri County Opportunity School. She was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Noblesville. Mindy saw the world through the eyes of love and kindness. She was a big hugger, and you were liable to get a hug whenever she saw you. She joined the Girl Scouts as a Brownie and continued in the organization for many years. She never forgot the lessons of kindness that were learned during those years. She also enjoyed swimming and roller skating, as well as listening to gospel music. A true child of God, Mindy loved Jesus and, in her own special way, helped spread love and kindness everywhere she went. She touched the lives of countless people, helping many who were in pain and suffering. Her heart was full of beauty, just like the rainbows and unicorns she loved so much, and her way of letting you know you were loved was through her hugs. She loved visiting with people, especially her cousins. She will be missed by all who were lucky enough to have known her. Mindy is survived by her loving parents, Kenneth Caywood and Deborah Darlene (Stout) Gilbert; nephew, Christopher Michael Gilbert (Karen); and niece, Kayla Gilbert House (Benjamin). She was preceded in death by her brother, Kevin Gilbert in 1997; and by her canine BFF, Babe. Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th Street, Sheridan, Indiana, with visitation from 12:00 pm until the time of service. Burial will follow at Spencer Cemetery in Sheridan, Indiana. Pastor Jason Rumph will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be presented to the First Baptist Church of Sheridan, 205 East 3rd Street, Sheridan, Indiana 46069.
