The Rossville Consolidated School District Board of Education met Tuesday, Dec. 2, addressing a range of staffing, policy, and financial matters while also approving the continuation of the district’s expanding summer childcare program.

Board President Joe Hufford opened the meeting and outlined public comment procedures before the board moved swiftly through its agenda. Members approved the resignation of Secondary Mathematics teacher Amy Schoon, effective Jan. 9, 2026, and voted to hire several new staff members, including Megan Arnone as a Tier I instructional assistant and Brin Heyer as a new middle/high school math teacher beginning Jan. 8.

Coaching appointments for sixth-grade girls’ basketball were approved, along with several district substitute teachers. The board also authorized two temporary middle school science teachers—Christina Griffin and Rochelle Scally—who will serve in consecutive assignments from January through mid-April.

In policy matters, the board conducted a first reading of revisions to its bus discipline policy. It approved five other policies on second reading, including updates to the nepotism and truancy guidelines and a new policy to ensure equal access for non-school-sponsored student groups.

The district also received several significant donations. Mohler Farms and the Kreps family contributed $11,824.08 from the FFA test plot harvest, with $10,000.06 directed to the FFA program. Additional donations to student lunch accounts were received from the Rossville Lions Club ($767.36) and the Rossville Church of the Brethren ($500).

Financial approvals included permission for the Treasurer to balance major funds at year-end, adoption of an online bill-payment platform to streamline accounts payable, and acceptance of an additional transfer student.

Citing strong parent interest, the board approved the 2026 Summer Childcare Program, which will operate weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at a weekly cost of $175. A deposit of the same amount is due on May 8 to secure enrollment.

The board also adopted its 18-month meeting schedule, setting dates through June 2027, including next year’s budget hearing and adoption sessions in October.

The meeting concluded with updates on field trips and conferences before adjournment.
