Richard L. Timmons

Richard “Dick” Lee Timmons passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at the age of 83. Richard was born to Earl and Florence Timmons on September 18, 1942, in Frankfort, Indiana.

After moving to Thorntown at age five, Dick was a life-long Boone County resident. He graduated from Thorntown High School in 1960, as Senior Class President and member of the 1960 sectional winning basketball team. He would later serve on the Western Boone School Board.

On October 10, 1964, he was married to his life-long partner and best friend, Sue Etta (Broshar) Timmons at Dover Christian Church, where they both were faithful members.

Richard served for six years in the Indiana National Air Reserves. Following his military service, he worked as a surveyor for Clyde Williams, a civil engineering firm, for 31 years. He also furthered his education at Purdue. He was later employed by Boone County, first as part of the Highway Department and then as the administrator of Maple View Rest Home, alongside Sue. At Maple View, he found fulfillment helping residents, brightening the lives of others, and caring for his golden retrievers.

Above all, Richard loved and cared deeply for his family. He enjoyed spending time with family at his lake house on Lake Shafer and cheering on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their athletics. Dick was a lifelong farmer and took joy from spending time in the fields. After spending several winters in Florida, where he frequently golfed and socialized with friends, he decided to return permanently to Indiana in order to cherish every moment he could with family.

Known for his artistic talent, Richard enjoyed drawing in his free time. Part of the “Early Birds” club, Richard loved his red 57’ Thunderbird. Most mornings, Dick and Sue could be found at McDonalds, laughing and sharing stories with their close friends.

Richard is survived by his wife, Sue Etta (Broshar) Timmons; his children, Rhonda (Randy) Poiry and Chad (Michelle) Timmons. He was affectionately known as “Paps” to his ten grandchildren: Taylor, Harper, Carter, Rutger, Brock, Erica, Micah, Derek, Colin, Cora, and his five great-grandchildren: Raelyn, Laine, Wallen, Caleb and Anna.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Junior and his sister, Shirley.

Family, friends and loved ones are invited to gather for a Celebration of Life Open House on Sunday, January 18, 2026, from 3:00-5:00 pm at Dover Christian Church. Burial of Richard’s ashes will be held at a later date. Myers Mortuary and Boone County Crematory have been entrusted with his cremation.

Memorials may be directed to Hope for His Children, 773 North 700 West, Lebanon, Indiana 46052.
