Beech Grove Officer Killed, Second Wounded in Domestic Disturbance Shooting; Suspect Captured After Hours-Long Search

Beech Grove, IN – February 16, 2026, just after 6:00 p.m., officers from the Beech Grove Police Department were dispatched to a 911 call of a domestic disturbance in an apartment on Diplomat Court. As officers encountered the subjects involved in the domestic disturbance at the doorway to the apartment a man fired shots at the officers from inside the residence. Two officers sustained gunshot wounds and were transported to an area hospital. Despite life saving efforts, Officer Bryan Elliott succumbed to his wounds at the hospital. The second officer is in stable condition.

The suspect fled the immediate area on foot. For several hours, officers from multiple agencies searched the area. At approximately 10:17 p.m. the suspect was taken into custody by members of the IMPD SWAT Team at a different apartment building in the same area as the incident. The suspect was identified as 47 year old Kenneth T. Johnson.

The investigation into the circumstances of this incident is ongoing, the Indiana State Police is leading the investigation with support from IMPD. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
