Venison Processing Workshop to Teach Deer Processing, Food Safety and Recipes

Anyone interested in learning how to properly process deer and make the most of venison will have an opportunity to learn from Purdue Extension educators during an upcoming Venison Processing Workshop.

The workshop will be held Tuesday, September 15, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the John S. Wright Center in West Lafayette.

Designed for hunters and anyone interested in learning more about venison, the workshop will offer hands-on demonstrations and practical information for participants of all experience levels—from beginners to experienced hunters.

Learn How to Process Deer

During the workshop, Purdue Extension educators will demonstrate how to butcher and prepare a deer, giving participants an opportunity to watch the complete processing process and learn techniques they can use at home.

The evening will also include opportunities to taste prepared venison and learn simple ways to incorporate the meat into meals.

Topics will include:

  • Complete deer-processing demonstrations
  • Quick and easy venison recipes
  • Food safety and deer health

Organizers say the program is designed to be both educational and entertaining, with something to offer participants regardless of their age or experience level.
