Culver’s Clears First Steps Coming to Frankfort

Culver’s cleared the first hurdle to bringing a restaurant to Frankfort Wednesday night as the Board of Zoning Appeals unanimously passed a special exception variance for make the restaurant possible.

“All the variances for Culver’s passed tonight,” said Frankfort Building Inspector Don Stock. “We felt like it would.”

Plans approved were a request to build within the existing setback plus a special exception to build a double drive thru as part of the proposed site.

The restaurant will be located at 2301 E. Wabash Street, just east of Hot Dog Avenue and east of the Frankfort Burger King, which is currently the King Pancake location, and across the street from Frankfort High School. Culver’s already has an agreement in place once things have been passed to build on site,

Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Shan Sheridan he is working with the current owner of the King Pancake House on another location.

“Culver’s has been a great group to work with,” said Stock. “We’ve had a lot of discussions on a lot of different things as the project moved forward and they have been very cooperative and understanding where we are with our ordinances. It’s been a pleasure working with them.”

Stock said the next step for Culver’s is to go through a design standard which is where everything that is in the overlay district is done according to the ordinance.

Stock did not have an opening date for the restaurant.
