Mr. Alva Grimes, 98, formerly of Advance, Indiana, passed away Wednesday morning, June 15, 2022, at The Waters of Greencastle. He was born on March 13, 1924 in Greencastle, Indiana; a son of the late Lawrence and Lydia (Elkins) Grimes.
On October 25, 1945, he was united in marriage to Vivian Kathleen (Caldwell) Grimes in Crawfordsville, Indiana. She preceded him in death on January 26, 2007.
Alva was a graduate of Greencastle High School. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1942-1943. He was employed with Farmers Creamery, Mid States Steel and Wire and later retired from Culver Union Hospital as a plant engineer.
Alva was a member of Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church in Crawfordsville, Indiana. He enjoyed puzzles, building doll houses, woodworking and loved all dogs. The family would like to greatly acknowledge all of the caretakers who were like family to Alva.
Survivors include one son: Gary (Rhoda) Grimes of Crawfordsville; son-in-law, Raymond Bahney of Lebanon; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Alva had four brothers and one sister.
In addition to his parents and wife, Alva was preceded in death by three daughters, Sharon Bahney, Karen “Sue” Collins, and Cheryl Gano; son-in-law, Stan Collins.
Funeral Services with military rites will be held at 12:00 p.m. noon on Monday, June 20, 2022, at Porter and Hunt Funeral Home & Crematory, 315 West Main Street in Jamestown, Indiana with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home in Jamestown. Interment will follow services at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Jamestown.
