Five Clinton County residents visiting Mexico died in a car accident this weekend.
Clinton County residents Jocelyn Mejia Garcia, 11 and Jesus Mejia Garcia, 14 and their father Guadalupe Mejia Sandoval, 38 died in a car accident. Also Clinton County residents Fernando Garcia and Maria Cuevas, 59 died in the same accident while in Mexico in Matehuala in the state of San Luis Potosi, according to reports received by Clinton County Daily News.
The accident apparently involved three vehicles including a Semi Truck. The white Suburban vehicle allegedly caught on fire, killing five Clinton County residents.
Guadalupe’s wife (and mother of the two children) Edith and younger daughter were in Frankfort at the time of the accident and survive.
Clinton County Daily News will continue to update this report as more information is confirmed. There may be other fatalities in this accident that are unknown to us at this time.
