The Michigantown Police Department has announced that the town clean-up day is slated for May 11 
this year throughout the town.
Community members in the Michigantown area are encouraged to leave their items for clean-up at the curbside the night before May 11 to ensure Waste Management will pick them up on their route.
Items that may be accepted by Waste Management during the clean-up day are carpet and padding that has been rolled and tied with tape or string into four foot sections no wider than two feet in diameter and no heavier than 50 pounds, bags for collection under 35 pounds and cans for collection under 50 pounds, items under five feet in length, under three feet wide, under three feet high and under 100 pounds.
Waste Management will also accept mattresses, box springs and upholstered furniture that has been wrapped in plastic for curbside pickup. Mattress page or plastic painting drop cloths sealed with duct tape must be used, and only queen size mattresses or smaller will be accepted while sofas may not be over 80 inches nor be a hide-a-bed or sleeper sofa.
Windows, glass and mirrors slated for pickup must be less than three inches by four inches in size, and broken glass must be placed in a separate box, taped shut and clearly marked “broken glass.” Grills may be accepted but must have the propane tank removed prior to disposal. Push lawn mowers must be drained of oil and gas prior to disposal, and riding lawn mowers are not accepted.
As a reminder, all small items must be placed in bags or cans for collection, and loose piles will be left at the curb for homeowners to dispose.
Waste Management will not accept auto parts, engines, tires, batteries, electronics, including televisions, computers, printers and fax machines, remodeling or construction materials, such as lumber, plaster, drywall, paneling, siding, roofing and other building materials, chemicals, pesticides, paints, solvents, propane tanks, gas tanks, ashes, dead animals, fencing, concrete, bricks, dirt, rocks, sod, stumps or medical waste.
Waste Management also stated that it will not accept appliances that contain Freon as well, such as air conditioners, freezers, refrigerators or dehumidifiers, unless the appliance is adorned with a certification sticker that indicates that the Freon has been removed by a certified technician.
The town clean-up days are created to allow community members to rid their household of large and bulk items and trash without being required to visit a dump site.
