Carroll County Emergency Management Services released a reminder for community members as the trial of Richard Allen, who has been
accused of the murders of Abby Williams and Libby German in Delphi in 2017, nears this month.
The department stated that with the upcoming trials, the department staff will not answer questions from the media nor share opinions about the trial. As well, the department stated that Carroll County, specifically Delphi around the courthouse, may experience increased traffic and foot traffic during the trial set for this month. The department requested for community members to remain vigilant and considerate during the timeframe of the increased activity for first responders:
We are aware of the upcoming trial happening in Delphi. Our staff will not answer any questions from the media or share opinions about the trial. We do politely ask that due to the increased traffic and foot traffic that, if you see or hear us coming your way, please pull to the right as safely as you can! If we are in a public area, it is your right to video us, however, please give us space to work, and do not interfere with our patient care! We will work to make sure all citizens and visitors are taken care of with courtesy and professionalism. Thank you!
A hearing is set for tomorrow, May 7 as Special Judge Fran Gull considers the length of the trial and what terms might be banned from jury selection. The trial is scheduled to begin May 13 and end by May 31, but the defense team for Allen has stated that the trial may take longer due to the report of 118 witnesses and 93 exhibits from the prosecution and a reported 70 witnesses from the defense. In response to the defense’s claim that more time may be necessary for the trial, Judge Gull will be holding the pretrial hearing tomorrow, May 7 to address the length of the trial.
