Two Clinton County Sheriff’s Office Special Deputies were sworn in Friday to serve in a broader capacity within the agency through their assignments at the Clinton County Courthouse.

The Sheriff’s Office announced that Special Deputies Boyd Martin and Erica Essick were sworn in on Friday to broaden their capacities to serve. As special deputies, both Martin and Essick will be required to undergo annual training to maintain all of their certifications, which allow them to conduct specialized duties granted by the Sheriff’s authority.

“Our special deputies have distinct authority granted by the Sheriff, such as limited arrest powers and certification in firearms, which allows them to participate in important tasks, such as the transporting of prisoners and arresting individuals on warrants,” the department released.

Special Deputy Martin is an Army Vietnam Veteran and a retired Captain from the Frankfort Police Department as he prepares to continue his law enforcement career at the courthouse. Special Deputy Essick is a retired Air Force Veteran who served during Operation Desert Storm as a paramedic, has been a local business owner, local artist and more that led to her pursuit of serving the Clinton County community at the courthouse.

“Thank you for your service to Clinton County,” the department released.
