The Rossville Hornets baseball team became the second Rossville team to secure victory in the Hoosier Heartland Conference as they took down the Delphi Oracles for a second time this season with a nail-biting final score that left the teams within one run of each other.
The Rossville Hornets secured the Hoosier Heartland Conference Champion title on Friday after rising above the Oracles with a final score of 4 to 3 in favor of the Hornets.
The Hornets entered the faceoff with the Oracles with a streak of racking up four runs during a victory, and the game played out along similar lines as the Hornets scored four runs to slightly edge out the Oracles.
Rossville began their streak of holding their opponents to low scores by defeating Sheridan in the game prior to the championship with a score of 4 to 1 in favor of the Hornets, propelling the Hornets into a momentous opportunity against the Oracles.
The Oracles sat on a similar route as they headed into the championship after the team secured a 10-game winstreak with a victory over the Eastern Comets prior to the ultimate game. The Oracles barely edged out the Comets with a final score of 5 to 3, which marked the second back-to-back win where the Oracles claimed victory by two runs.
Heading into the championship game, the Hornets had secured a record of 14 wins and 9 losses while the Oracles were on a 10-game winning streak as they earned victories in 12 of their last 13 games before the matchup, heading into the game with a record of 16 wins and 8 losses for the season.
Previously, the Hornets reigned above the Oracles by only one run as they snuck a win against Delphi in April with a score of 15 to 14 in favor of the Hornets.
The championship game fell along the same lines as the Hornets maintained a low-scoring game where they edged out the Oracles by only one run, ending 4 to 3, to secure the Hoosier Heartland Conference Champion title alongside the Hornets softball team who branded the title earlier this season.
