The Town of Zionsville is presenting the Zionsville Butterfly Trail for community members to explore across Zionsville, which is described as a town within a park, furthering the art installation’s meaning.
With over 700 acres of parks that remain as natural habitats within Zionsville, the town has a flourishing outdoor venue for activities, including the Zionsville Butterfly Trail presented by Robert Goodman Jewelers from June through Aug. 31.
Zionsville dedicates itself to preserving and restoring native wetlands, forests and prairie habitats, and the town has committed itself to supporting native pollinators, such as butterflies, within the natural habitats around the parks. The town has also been an active member of the National Wildlife Federations Mayors Monarch Pledge Leadership Circle.
As an encouragement for community members to explore the parks and learn more about the importance of maintaining a healthy population of natural pollinators, the town has partnered with numerous local artists to construct and display sets of butterfly wings across the town, which has been deemed the “Zionsville Butterfly Trail,” which community members may embark upon a journey to locate all of the wings and share their finds on social media.
“Find beauty in our local parks and community by visiting all eight sets of original butterfly wings, designed by local artists, throughout Zionsville this summer,” the town released.
Many Zionsville community members may stumble across one of the sets of butterfly wings while visiting the Mulberry Fields’ Splash Pad during the summer months. The Mulberry Fields’ installation is titled “Growing Wild,” and was painted by mother and daughter team, Erica and Ripley Schutt.
“As you lay in a field of wildflowers you can see many colors filter through,” Schutt wrote. “My daughter and I love the outdoors, and painting, and are often in awe of the beautiful colors we see in sunsets and sunrises in Indiana.”
The Wingfinder Guide may be accessed at zionsville-in.gov, which provides a map for the location of all the butterfly wings that are spread throughout the town.
The butterfly wings are located at Overly-Worman Park at 6040 Godello Circle, SullivanMunce Cultural Center at 225 W. Hawthorne St., Lincoln Park at 41 S. 2nd St., Elm Street Green at 165 N. Elm Street, Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library at 250 N. 5th St., Zionsville Town Hall Plaza at 1110 W. Oak St., Mulberry Fields Park at 9645 Whitestown Rd. and Heritage Trail Park at 4050 S. 875 E. all in Zionsville.
