The First Baptist Church of Camden team is seeking donations for disaster relief for a church in Ashville, North Carolina following the destruction of Hurricane Helene.
John Ohman of the First Baptist Church of Camden stated that the team is seeking to fill two trailers with supplies for the first responders conducting search and rescues for the disaster in North Carolina.
“I spoke with a pastor, and they are devastated,” Ohman wrote. “They are clearing out rooms to house our first responders search and rescue.”
Supplies may be donated at First Baptist Church of Camden at 225 E. Main St. in Camden, and the team is expected to be in the parking lot accepting the donations from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Wednesday, Oct. 9.
“This is about families helping families, not denomination, so please give if you can,” Ohman wrote.
Supply List from Pastor in North Carolina for First Responders:
- Non-perishable, pop-top items (proteins and breakfast items, Chef Boyardee, beanie weenee)
- Loafs of sandwich bread
- Gatorade
- Liquid IV
- Dude wipes
- Bundles of washcloths
- Gallon jugs of water
- Gallon jugs of distilled water for babies and cpaps
- Box fans
- Full gas and diesel cans
- Large drum liner trash bags
- Batteries (AA/AAA)
- Coffee and coffee filters
- Reusable coffee mugs (for strike teams in the field)
- Disinfectant wipes
- Disinfectant sprays
- Room spray
- Paper towels
Ohman stated that once the teams depart for North Carolina with the supplies for the first responders, they will return to begin collecting supplies for the victims of the storm. The team in Camden will begin collecting coats, new or used, as well as Bibles and inspirational books. In addition to the initial list of items, the team will also add shovels, blankets and towels to the list.
The team stated that those traveling to North Carolina intend to sit down with the Pastor in Ashville and discuss the items needed in addition to those already supplied.

Community Foundation Serving Howard, Clinton and Carroll Counties Marketing and Communications Director Emily Hemmersbach also stated that donating to the local North Carolina or national United Way agencies may also be a means to help with addressing the needs of those affected.
