Gloria Anne Laverty, 87, of Frankfort, died November 1, 2024 at Grand Brooke Memory Care, Zionsville, Ind.  She was born in Indianapolis on August 4, 1937 to Thomas G. and Alyce (Brufladt) LaManna.  After the death of her father, on November 8, 1937, her mother married Fredrik G. Lofquist on March 3, 1941.  Gloria married Robert O. Laverty on July 29, 1967 in Indianapolis and he preceded her in death on May 14, 2001.

Gloria was a graduate of Broad Ripple High School, received her B.S. Degree from Butler University, her M.A. from Ball State and completed her 6th year at IUPUI.  She had lived in Indianapolis until 1967 before moving to Frankfort.  Gloria had been a teacher at Clinton Prairie and Frankfort School systems for 33 years, retiring in 2002.  She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Indianapolis, Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity, past member of Alpha Delta Kappa Educational Honorary, Tri Kappa Sorority, Clinton County Retired Teachers Association, Past President of the Frankfort Literary Club, Past President of the Clinton County Symphony Society, The Sacred Heart, Minnesota Historical Society, former board member and past treasurer of the Friends of the Frankfort Library, The Newfoundland Club of America, The South Central Newfoundland Club, the Lafayette Alumnae Association of Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity, and President of the Indianapolis Branch of the English Speaking Union.

Gloria and her husband, Bob, enjoyed spending time with family and many relatives, sponsoring exchange students from Europe, Asia, and South America for many years, traveling to America’s National Parks, visiting exchange students and their families, fishing, sailing, cooking, gardening and raising Newfoundland’s for show and pleasure.

Gloria is survived by five nephews and one niece.  She is preceded in death by her parents, spouse and a sister, Barbara Joan Pedersen.

Funeral Services:

Visitation will be 4-5:30 p.m. Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort.  Private family services will be held and burial will be in Green Lawn Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to the Frankfort Library, 208 W.
