During the City of Lebanon Council meeting last night, Nov. 12, Chief Charles Batts was granted the honor of swearing in members of the department as they continue their career in promoted positions.
Batts officially swore in newly promoted Lt. Preston Aspeslet and Captain Sam Dougherty last night as they continue their careers serving the community of Lebanon in a higher capacity.
Aspeslet began his career with the Lebanon Fire Department as a lateral transfer hire in 2020 after serving more than a decade at a neighboring fire department. In his time at the department, he has been noted for displaying leadership skills and taking extreme ownership in the department.
Dougherty stands as a seven-year veteran firefighter and has risen through the ranks. Dougherty has been noted for honing his craft through training and education as well as spearheading the department’s CPR program while also serving as a counselor at Hoosier Burn Camp.
“Both officers were joined by family, friends and brother and sister firefighters as they swore the oath of office,” the department released. “Please join us in congratulating Captain Sam Dougherty and Lieutenant Preston Aspeslet on their promotions.”
