Ardella Jane Myers, age 77, died on Tuesday, October 11, 2022. The daughter of Porter L. (P.L.) and Margaret L. (Sigmon) Myers, Ardella was born at Camp Atterbury Military Base Hospital, Indiana on April 23, 1945.
A 1963 graduate of Lebanon High School, Ardella spent four years in Bloomington where she graduated in 1967 with a degree in marketing from the Indiana University School of Business. Ardella spent most of her life in Lebanon with the exception of periods she lived in Chicago and Indianapolis.
She began her business career in marketing at Carson Pirie Scott & Company in Chicago becoming familiar with buying trips to the Mart located in Chicago. She later became a buyer for the Junior division at Carson’s. While living in Indianapolis, she worked at LS Ayres & Company. In Lebanon, she acquired the specialty children’s store known as the LeMar Shop in the 1970’s located on South Meridian Street and later changed the location to the south side of the Lebanon square. In addition, she opened Reflections in 1977, a ladies clothing store in the former Sugar Bowl location on the square. She and her sister, Anita, operated Reflections for many years.
Ardella was one of only a few women business owners in Lebanon where she was active in Chamber of Commerce activities. She took pride in style and appearance and in serving her patrons. She also was active in the community in various groups and activities as well as holding membership in Centenary United Methodist Church.
Ardella was talented and enjoyed her detailed and creative needlepoint. In the past, she had entered several items in the 4-H Open Show and enjoyed the exchange of ideas with her friends in the needlework group. Ardella made various special needlepoint items for family and friends. Her nieces and nephews delighted in their yearly needlepoint Christmas ornaments. A devoted daughter, she spent much of her time caring for and helping her aging parents.
She enjoyed entertaining both family and friends in her home. As the family historian, her sharp memory and stories from past generations were treasures to all of her family.
Ardella was the oldest of four children. The Myers children grew up living in the Myers Mortuary and helping in various capacities as they developed an appreciation for funeral service and the families they served. She maintained a keen interest in the family business.
