Arrest Made in Traffic Pursuit and Collision in Lebanon

On Thursday, at approximately 02:53 a.m., Lebanon Police Department (LPD) made a traffic stop on I-65 northbound near mile marker 138. LPD Officer T. Winnings conducted a traffic stop on a red minivan for a traffic offense. The red minivan stopped in the median center of I-65. Officers identified that the vehicle had three people inside. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Sharun Wynn, age 28, of Alsip, IL. The two passengers were both males from Illinois.

During the traffic stop Officers tried to verify the driver’s identity. Officers on the scene believed that the information given was false. Officer Winnings and LPD Officer A. McCloskey approached the vehicle a second time to verify the information that was given. Wynn fled from the scene in the vehicle. Officer McCloskey was struck in the shoulder with the vehicle causing him injury.

LPD Officers, along with assisting agencies, pursued the suspect vehicle into Tippecanoe County. The suspect vehicle struck the guardrail, lost control, and began to roll near mile marker 178. The suspect vehicle came to rest in the southbound lanes. All occupants of the suspect vehicle were transported to IU Health Arnett Hospital for treatment.

Wynn was released from IU Health Arnett and transported to Boone County Jail by LPD. Wynn has been charged with the following: 2 counts of battery against a public safety official, 2 counts of criminal recklessness, 3 counts of resisting law enforcement, 2 counts of
reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and possession of marijuana. Wynn is currently held at Boone County Jail.

Officer McCloskey received medical treatment from Witham Health Services and was released. No other officers were injured during the purist and crash.
