Beverly Jo Newhart, of Jamestown, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon. She was 87 years old. Born in Indianapolis on June 25, 1936, she was a daughter of Richard Harrison Spears and Lois Evelyn (Wilson) Spears.
On June 26, 1954, she was united in marriage to Elton Daniel Newhart in Jamestown; he survives.
Beverly was a 1954 graduate of Arsenal Technical High School. She devoted 40 years to the banking industry, employed at Citizens State Bank in Jamestown, Boone County State Bank, Ameritrust Bank, Society Bank, and Key Bank all of Lebanon. She was a faithful member of the Old Union Church where she participated in the Women’s Fellowship. She was involved throughout the community in various clubs and organizations such as, the U and I Home Economics Club, Chamber of Commerce, Boone County Cancer Society (treasurer), Witham Hospital Board of Trustees, and the Phi Beta Psi Sorority.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband as members of the Mid Hoosier A’s, which was a division of the Ford Model A Restorer’s Club. Joining them in their travels were their dear friends Marvin and Dottie Bartlett. Beverly was an avid card player and enjoyed playing cards, particularly Bridge, with her friends. She cherished her family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who loved her.
Survivors include her husband, Elton D. “Bud” Newhart of Jamestown; two daughters, Jodi (Ed) Charlton of Jamestown and Julie (Brian) Walker of Lafayette; six grandchildren, Seth (Deanna) Charlton, Gabriel Charlton, Ethan Charlton, Samuel (Betsy) Walker, Grace (Scott) Sexton, and Olivia Walker; nine great grandchildren, Elijah Sexton, Walker Sexton, Silas Sexton, Maximus “Max” Charlton, Augustus “Gus” Charlton, Melody Charlton, Riley Walker, Chase Walker, and Jaxson Walker.
In addition to her parents, Beverly was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Mary Newhart; son-in-law, Ed Charlton; and granddaughter, Noelle Marie Charlton, in infancy.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Old Union Church, 5681 South 500 West, in Jamestown Indiana. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Old Union Cemetery. Porter and Hunt Funeral Home & Crematory in Jamestown has been entrusted with her care.
Memorials may be directed in her memory to the Boone County Cancer Society or Old Union Church.
