Boone County Honors & Remembers Those Who Made The Ultimate Sacrifice

Law enforcement officers remember those who have fallen in the line of duty during Peace Officers Memorial Day.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office invited the public to attend a Peace Officer Memorial Day ceremony on Wednesday, May 15 to honor the officers and heroes who have given their lives in the line of duty.

The Peace Officer Memorial Day ceremony commenced on Wednesday, May 15 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the Courthouse Square in Lebanon with numerous activities designed to honor the Fallen Peace Officers from the Boone County community as well as educate the public on how law enforcement officers continue to stay safe every day.

The Lebanon Police released a statement regarding the ceremony where numerous officers attended to continue to pay their respects for the officers who have passed.

“The Lebanon Police Department and all other Boone County law enforcement departments extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us on (Wednesday) for our Peace Officer Memorial Day event at the Courthouse Square,” the department released. “Your presence meant the world to us as we came together to honor the brave souls who have selflessly served and protected our community.

The Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department attended the ceremony with numerous officers devoting their time in remembrance of their law enforcement family.

“Members from all Boone County law enforcement agencies along with the public gathered to converse and ultimately honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty,” the department released. “This event is held during National Police Week every year but allows us as a law enforcement community to commemorate, remember and honor those we lost on a more personal level.”

The Zionsville Police Department rounded out the comments from local law enforcement agencies as the department detailed the significance of Peace Officers Memorial Day across the nation.

“We honor the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities,” the department released. “We stand in solidarity with their families and loved ones, and we reaffirm our commitment to honoring their memory and upholding their legacy of service and sacrifice.”

The Sheriff’s Office left the ceremony with a call for the community to continue coming together in solidarity to honor those who serve and protect.

“Peace Officer Memorial Day will be a heartfelt tribute to their sacrifices and celebration of their legacy,” the Sheriff’s Office released. “Let’s stand together in gratitude and remembrance.”

The event will featured food trucks, demonstrations, equipment tours and kid-friendly activities alongside having officers available for the community to talk with, ask questions and learn more about law enforcement and their role in maintaining the safety of the community while remaining safe themselves.
