On October 16, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office received information that a threat had been made, via social media, against unidentified person(s) at Western Boone Schools. Since being made aware of this allegation, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, the Lebanon School Corporation Police
Department, and the Lebanon Police Department have been investigating said claim.
Additionally, BCSO deputies have been on scene at Western Boone, even with school being out on Fall Break, assisting with this investigation. Investigators have interviewed the creator of the post who is an 18- year-old Lebanon High School student and found there is no credible threat to anyone at Western Boone County Community School Corporation. BCSO believes it is safe to resume normal routines at the school and the 18-year-old Lebanon High School student has been issued a trespass warning for the Western Boone County Community School Corporation. Currently, this incident is still under investigation and while no arrest has been made, charges could still be filed by the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office.
Sheriff Mike Nielsen stated: “School safety is of the upmost importance to our office. We will not tolerate any threats being made against anyone, especially those made towards our schools. Anyone who wishes harm upon our schools and/or students will be thoroughly investigated and dealt with appropriately within the letter of the law. We are a truly blessed county to be able to say that we have School Resource Officers in all our county area schools. These men have my upmost confidence and I know they will deal with any active threat within our schools swiftly and appropriately, just as they did in this case.”
Western Boone County Community School Corporation, Rob Ramey Stated: “Western Boone County Community School Corporation appreciates the collaboration that occurred between the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and Lebanon Police Department investigating a social media post. The safety of our students and staff members continues to be a top priority. Staff members, students, and parents are reminded that if you see or hear something, say something.”
