The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is urging drivers to use extreme caution as slick spots and black ice have been reported throughout the county.
According to officials, hazardous conditions are especially prevalent on bridges, in shaded areas, and on less-traveled roads, where ice can be difficult to see. Local first responders are currently working multiple accidents related to the icy conditions and remain on alert as weather impacts continue.
The Sheriff’s Office asks motorists to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time to reach their destinations. Drivers are also encouraged to stay alert for rapidly changing road conditions, even on roads that may appear clear at first glance.
Authorities stress that cooperation from the public is critical in helping emergency personnel respond effectively and in keeping everyone safe. If travel is not necessary, residents are encouraged to delay trips until conditions improve.
