The Boone County Solid Waste Management District released information regarding recyclable and environmentally-friendly alternatives for the Christmas season.
The district stated that one of the Christmas staples that cannot be recycled is artificial Christmas trees, but the district encouraged community members to reuse portions of the tree as other decor as a means to reuse the materials rather than dispose of the product.
The district further stated that if reusing the tree is not an option, community members may dispose of the tree by throwing it away in the curbside bin or by visiting the transfer station in Zionsville at Caldwells at 985 US 421 in Zionsville. Community members are encouraged to call ahead for hours and fees at 317-769-4223.
The district released that although artificial Christmas trees are not recyclable, community members are encouraged to recycle their old Christmas lights at Great Lakes Ace in Zionsville or Lowes in Anson.
The district also released means of reducing waste through the gift-giving holiday season.
